Cedar Lake Recreation Site

Please be advised that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, camping at Cedar Lake Recreation Site will continue to be dependent on Provincial health restrictions and may change on short notice.

Cedar Lake Recreation Site is located on a forested bench above the Columbia River, near Golden, in Kicking Horse Country. The campground and day-use areas are set within the larger Moonraker Recreation Area, a rugged forested mountain environment and home to Rocky Mountain wildlife.

The 22-site primitive campground (no water, no electricity) is perfect for tenting and 4x4 campers; a few sites accommodate larger RV units. The Campground is open May 1 to October 15 annually and is pet-friendly.  The beaches and picnic areas are lakeside with separate parking and a vault toilet. Sites are available on a first come, first serve basis; no reservations accepted. Please contact Trina at twandgrady@yahoo.ca.

Recent improvements

Cedar Lake Recreation Site has been recently upgraded with 12 new camp sites with new picnic tables and fire rings. Two new pit toilets have been installed, as well as new signage. In partnership with Rec Sites and Trails BC, the Freshwater Fisheries Society and the Golden Rod & Gun Club, the CSRD has installed a new swimming and fishing dock.

Camping Fees

  • $15 Per Night
  • $7.50 Per Night for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

Day-use at Cedar Lake Rec Site offers two beaches, a picnic site, swimming, small craft use, parking and toilet facilities.  One beach accommodates hand-launching small watercraft for exploring and fishing the small lake.  A small parking area nearby accommodates several vehicles with boat trailers. It is recommended that visitors wear protective footwear when swimming, wading, or boat-launching.

Over 50 km of recreational trails (the Moonraker Trail system) are accessible from the campground encouraging exploration by mountain bike, hiking or horseback. As the recreational trails are within a woodlot, visitors are advised to be watchful of commercial operations.  The same roads become cross-country ski and snowshoe routes in the winter.

Please help keep this site clean. Campers and day-users are required to pack out what they pack in, as there is no garbage receptacles or pickup at the site.

Cedar Lake Recreation Site is managed by a joint agreement between Rec Sites and Trails BC and the CSRD Parks and Recreation.
