Evacuation Alert - Swansea Point

July 21, 19:00 Hours

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre. A wildfire burning in the area of Two Mile Creek near the Boundary of the District of Sicamous and the CSRD’s Electoral Area E is growing and may pose a danger. Due to the potential danger to life, health or property, an Evacuation Alert is in effect for the following areas:

The community of Swansea Point including both sides of Highway 97A north to the District of Sicamous municipal boundary.

July 20, 2021, 14:14 Hours - Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Order has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre due to an immediate danger to life safety caused by a wildfire burning near Two Mile Creek near the boundary of the District of Sicamous and Electoral Area E. The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following area:

All residences within the District of Sicamous that lie to the south of Sherlock Rd, south-east of Cook Ave, Gillis Ave, Larch Ave, east of the Sicamous Narrows and Mara Lake, and north of Sicamous Creek.

Update: 17:45 PM - The evacuation of approximately 1,000 residents is currently underway in the District of Sicamous. A reception centre has been set up at the Sicamous Seniors Centre, 1091 Shuswap Avenue,  Sicamous.

BC Wildfire is actively and aggressively fighting the fire at Two Mile Creek. The Shuswap Emergency Program and CSRD Fire Departments are supporting the firefighting efforts and structural protection support.

Evacuation Alert 

July 20, 2021 - 13:30 Hours - An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre. A wildfire burning in the area of Two Mile Creek on the boundary of the District of Sicamous and Electoral Area E may pose a danger to people and property. Due to the potential danger to life, health or property, an Evacuation Alert is in effect for the following areas:

The area of the District of Sicamous south of the Trans-Canada Highway, up to the eastern and western boundaries of the District of Sicamous.

New fire - Two Mile Creek

Tuesday, July 20, 2021 11:00 Hours - The Shuswap Emergency Program has been made aware of a new fire south of Two Mile Creek in Electoral Area E.

The Sicamous and Swansea Point Fire Departments are on scene and are assessing the fire in conjunction with the BC Wildfire Service.

Update: 11:23 AM

There is a tactical evacuation underway of homes nearest to the fire. Assessments are continuing. 

The Sicamous Landfill is being closed until further notice.

The Sicamous Bottle and Recycling Depot is open.


Evacuation Order

July 20, 2021 12:00 Hours

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Order has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre due to an immediate danger to life safety caused by a wildfire burning near Three Valley Lake in Electoral Area E. The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following area:

Three Valley Lake including the area bordering the NORTH side of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Travel along the Trans-Canada Highway is open.

Evacuation Alert - Three Valley Lake

July 19, 2021 - 14:00 Hours - An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre. A wildfire burning near Three Valley Lake in Electoral Area E is growing and may pose a danger to life, health or property. As a precautionary measure, an Evacuation Alert is in effect for the area of  Three Valley Lake including the area bordering the NORTH side of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Evacuation Order and Alert - Seymour Arm

July 22, 2021 - for 20:00 Hours - Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Order has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre due to the danger to life safety caused by a wildfire burning near Seymour Arm in Electoral Area F. This order is being given to the public in advance to give them as much notice of the Order as possible.

This Evacuation Order will go in effect on July 22, 2021 at 20:00 Hours

The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following areas:

  • All properties within the community of Seymour Arm east and south of Seymour Arm Bay Road.
  • Seymour River Road including Tipman Road, Bradley Road and all boat-in only properties in the vicinity of Tranquility Bay.
  • This order excludes the following addresses: 1142, 1158, 1306 Seymour Arm Bay Road.

July 22, 2021 - 08:00 Hours

Pursuant to the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Order has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre due to an immediate danger to life safety caused by a wildfire burning near Seymour Arm in Electoral Area F. The Evacuation Order is in effect for the following areas:

All residences within the community of Seymour Arm that are in the neighbourhood of Tranquility Bay.

All properties east of Seymour Arm Bay Road and Seymour River Road at Bughouse Bay and including Tipman Road and Bradley Road and the boat-in only properties.

Update July 22, 2021 03:25 Hours - A tactical evacuation is now completed in Seymour Arm for approximately 39 people on the east side of the community. The CSRD firefighters have gone door-to-door to ensure people in the affected area have been notified. All are safe.

BC Wildfire and the CSRD fire crews are actively engaged in firefighting efforts in the community.

July 14, 2021 - An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Shuswap Emergency Program’s Emergency Operations Centre. A wildfire burning in the area of Hunakwa Lake in Electoral Area F is growing and may pose a danger. As a precautionary measure and due to the potential danger to life, health or property, an Evacuation Alert is in effect for the community of Seymour Arm.

Update - July 21, 2021 - Hunakwa Lake Fire area remains at 1100 hectares but is moving away from the community of Seymour Arm. There are no changes to the area alerts.


Evacuation Order

July 11, 2021 - An Evacuation Order has been issued on July 11, 2021 for a one-kilometre radius around the K3 Cat Skiing Lodge located at the end of the East Gorge Forest Service Road. This replaces the Evacuation Alert, which was issued on Saturday, July 10 at 2 PM.

This order affects one property only, the K3 Cat Skiing Lodge at the end of the East Gorge Forest Service Road on Queest Mountain. This order will remain in place until further notice.

Evacuation Alert

July 10, 2021 - 14:00 - An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District at the Emergency Operations Centre. The Bews Creek Fire in a remote section of Electoral Area E is threatening a cat-skiing lodge and operation on Queest Mountain. Due to the potential danger to life and health, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for the following area:

A one-kilometre radius around the K3 Cat Skiing Lodge located at the end of the East Gorge Forest Service Road on Queest Mountain.
