The Columbia Shuswap Regional District offers our condolences to the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, who are greatly impacted by news of the mass grave of 215 children at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
Our thoughts are with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Elders, children, parents, and community members in our region and across the country who continue to feel the hurt, oppression, and trauma from Canada's forced residential schooling for Indigenous children.
“We are saddened and horrified by this tragic loss,” says Columbia Shuswap Regional District Board Chair Kevin Flynn. “While we can not comprehend the suffering endured by those directly affected by residential schools, we share in this sorrow.”
Learning about this recent finding will be traumatizing and difficult for many members of our region. The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line is 1-866-925-4419.
