Flooding Season - Warmer Temperatures means Melting Snow Pack

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Recent precipitation, mixed with unseasonably warmer temperatures has increased melting of the snow pack, and could raise the levels of rivers and creeks in the area, which could potentially cause localized flooding in some areas.

The Shuswap Emergency Program (SEP) strongly advises residents, particularly those whose properties are prone to flooding, to undertake the necessary measures to protect structures, equipment and materials before flooding is imminent.  Construction of sandbag dikes are a very effective tool in helping to protect your property.  See our sandbag information page for further information and suppliers.

Residents are encouraged to review flood risks and preparedness tips on the Emergency Management BC website.

To report a serious flood situation that may endanger life, safety or necessitate an emergency evacuation, call 911.  Report all other debris flow emergencies to the 24/7 Provincial Emergency Reporting Line at 1.800.663.3456.
