After a multi-year consultation process involving the public and many stakeholders, the Electoral Area C (South Shuswap) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 725 was adopted at the March 20, 2014 Board meeting.
The Plan sets out policies and land use designations that will guide future growth in all of Electoral Area C. The Plan is divided into sections, each focusing on particular community issues such as land use, environment, housing, infrastructure, etc.
One of the most notable differences between the new and old OCP is the introduction of Development Permit (DP) Areas in the South Shuswap as a tool to help protect the environment, avoid development in hazardous areas, and set guidelines for the form and character of commercial and industrial development. As the Development Permit requirement is now in effect residents of the South Shuswap who are currently working on projects that trigger a Development Permit are urged to contact CSRD, Development Services, for permit application information.
In the upcoming weeks, watch for public notices, news releases and individual mail-outs to Area C residents and property owners with information about the bylaw and how it affects your property.
