Residents of the North and South Shuswap should be advised that geotechnical assessments are currently underway and this work includes using drones in those areas.
The drones are being used to capture orthophotographs which will help geotechnical engineers determine the safety and stability of slopes in the area. This will assist with the rebuilding process. Currently a moratorium has been placed on the issuance on building permits in wildfire-impacted areas until geotechnical engineers have determined the area is safe from potential hazards, including landslides, rockfall, flooding and erosion.
This work will be conducted by a contracted firm, Spexi Geospatial, and will be taking place over the next week.
The CSRD wants residents of the area to understand why they may be seeing drones flying in the area.
