Shuswap Emergency Program update – August 2, 2023 – 9:45 PM
Residents continue to evacuate from the communities affected by the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire, including Dorian Bay, Woolford Point and Enns Reach.
The CSRD has issued updated Evacuation Orders and Alerts in conjunction with those issued by the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and the Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB). All 92 properties previously on Evacuation Alert are now on Evacuation Order.
- Ground crews and structure protection are fully engaged in structure defence for the past several hours.
- For the safety of firefighters and first responders, BC Hydro has turned off power for the entire Evacuation Order area south along the lake. See the BC Hydro website for detailed mapping of the outage.
- All boaters are asked to stay completely off Adams Lake as skimmer planes are working to suppress the fire. There is already limited visibility for these pilots due to smoke.
- Seven water skimmers have been engaged since 6:30 PM. Helicopters and skimmers will fly until they are no longer able to do so.
This is an rapidly changing situation and information will be posted as quickly as possible.
