Assent Voting 2022

There is a single assent vote (referendum) being conducted in conjunction with the 2022 Local Government Elections. It is in regards to the proposed development of a new indoor aquatics centre in Golden to replace the aging outdoor pool. Only residents of Electoral Area A and Golden can vote in this referendum because they are the only areas where taxpayers will be contributing for the new facility. The assent vote is planned in conjunction with the Local Government Elections on October 15, 2022.

Assent Vote Question

At the June 16, 2022 Regular Meeting, the CSRD Board approved the question for the upcoming voter assent process as:

“Are you in favour of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District adopting Golden and Area Aquatic Centre Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 5849, 2022, which will permit the Regional District to borrow up to $18 million over a 30-year term to be utilized towards the capital cost to construct an indoor aquatic centre as an addition to the existing Golden and District Recreation Centre?”

What is the project?

The proposed Indoor Aquatic Centre facility would include a six-lane 25m lap pool, a separated leisure pool, lazy river, tots’ area, hot tub, sauna, steam room, multi-purpose room and a large lobby space intended as a community hub. The estimated cost of the facility is $35 million, with a $17 fundraising campaign underway. The referendum will seek approval of the electors for the remaining $18 million.

How do I vote?

Voters in the referendum can cast ballots by:

• Mail 
• Advance Voting - Wednesday, October 5, 2022
• General Voting Day - Saturday, October 15, 2022

The procedure and voting requirements are the same as for voting for an Electoral Area Director. This is explained on the Voter Information page. 

Mail Ballots

Mail ballot voting was available for resident electors and non-resident property electors in the CSRD.

To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer at the CSRD Office no later than 8 PM (local time) on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Please note: once you request a mail ballot, you will not be issued another ballot.
