Fireworks at Night

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) Fireworks/Firecrackers Regulation Bylaws are specific to fireworks and firecrackers. These Bylaws prohibit the sale of fireworks and firecrackers and control the possession, use and discharge of fireworks within Electoral Areas C, E, F and G.

Before discharging or setting off any fireworks within Electoral Areas C, E, F and G, you require a valid Fireworks Permit. Fireworks may only be used, set off or discharged for a Special Public Function and only with a permit as authorized by the CSRD's Deputy Regional Fire Chief. Anyone found setting off fireworks without a permit may be fined $200 and/or and may be subject to formal enforcement proceedings for each incident. Failure to comply with the terms of the Fireworks Permit is also subject to fine and/or formal enforcement proceedings. Email the Deputy Regional Fire Chief.

Please note: Effective June 14, 2023 and until further notice, the CSRD will not be issuing fireworks permits due to the extreme fire risk in the area. Read more.

The CSRD understands the entertainment value for families of consumer-type fireworks. At the same time, misuse of fireworks poses a real risk of fire. By controlling the times, places, and safety issues surrounding the use of these fireworks and educating the untrained individual, we believe public safety can be enhanced.
