Shuswap Emergency Program

The Shuswap Emergency Program is a regional organization that works to ensure residents are prepared, safe and informed in cases of floods, wildfire, extreme weather and more.

It serves the citizens of the City of Salmon Arm, District of Sicamous and CSRD Electoral Areas C, D, E, F and G.

Emergency Information for Revelstoke and Electoral Area B and the Town of Golden and Electoral Area A is managed directly by those communities.

Recovery Efforts

The Bush Creek East Wildfire began in early July 2023 and forced the evacuation of more than 8,000 people from eight communities in the Shuswap region. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has staff and resources to assist residents impacted by the wildfire, especially those who suffered property damage or loss.

The Province has a helpful guide for residents whose properties have been impacted by wildfire. This will help you learn how to deal with any potential contaminants.

Online Information Briefing August 3, 2023

The Shuswap Emergency Program hosted a virtual session to update the public on the current situation with the Lower East Adams Lake Wildfire.

The meeting recording is posted to the CSRD website and the Shuswap Emergency webpage below. Due to a technical glitch, the video started slightly later than the beginning of the meeting. In case you missed the introduction, this briefing was to provide information during a very active fire situation. We are committed to go back in front of the community to hear their questions and concerns in a public forum at a later date once the fire activity is reduced.

Access Video Recording.

Presenters included:

  • Forrest Tower, BC Wildfire Service Information Officer
  • John MacLean, Director CSRD Emergency Operations Centre
  • Cathy Semchuk, Emergency Support Services
  • Tracy Hughes, CSRD Public Information Officer

This was an information briefing only. There was no question period.
