The Columbia Shuswap Regional District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. With incredible mountain views, a multitulde of lakes and rivers, waterfalls, and enchanting forests just minutes away from most communities, it is easy to see why the vision of a system of parks and trails connecting them is catching on in the CSRD.

Each of the six electoral areas in the Regional District has a Community Parks function. The budget for each of the areas varies, depending upon the level of tax requisition approved by the CSRD Board. Each electoral area has (or will have) a Parks Plan which provides strategic direction for the acquisition and development of parks and trails for a 20 year planning horizon. Each electoral area with a parks plan has an active Community Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, and a program of park development and maintenance.

Community parks are acquired through land development as a requirement of subdivision, or through purchases, donation, or transfer/lease/license of occupation of crown land from the province. Some of the more developed and popular community parks include Sorrento Blind Bay Park in Sorrento and Rose Clifford Park in Scotch Creek.

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for planning, managing and operating Community Parks in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District. Five of the six Electoral Areas have completed Parks Plans which guide the development of parks over a 20 year planning horizon. The final Parks Plan (for Area B) is currently underway. Overall, there are nearly 200 sites that have been identified as candidate parks or trails, and the CSRD has approximately 30 parks and trails formally established and operating, since the program was established in 2004. Please visit the Contact Page for more if you have any questions or comments.
