Subsequent to a successful public assent process in 2009, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District officially took over the ownership and operation of the Sorrento water system on January 1, 2010. The $2,144,000 upgrades (with 2/3 funding through a Building Canada Grant) which included a new lake intake and pump system, new chlorine disinfection system, installation of Ultra Violet disinfection, emergency power and new water supply mains began in the spring of 2010 and was completed in the fall of 2011.
Copperview Mainline Connection
Any and all properties along the new mainline running between Sorrento and Copperview will have the opportunity to connect to the Sorrento Water system. Sorrento/Copperview Water System
The 4.9 million dollar upgrade ongoing works completed to date include: - New deep water intake and dedicated mainline to Treatment Plant
- New UltraViolet/Chloronation Treatment Plant/Pump Station
- SCADA monitoring system
- Emergency Power
- New Reservoir and Rechlorination station
- 5 km water main now in service - complete with Fire Protection
Costs of Connection Reserve Contribution: 10 times the Parcel Tax (For example $178 = $1,780) Per residence currently outside of the existing water service area
Connection Fee: $2,000 per property Please note this represents a standard installation that does not require any added engineering or infrastructure costs. A Public Assent process must also take place prior to a property connecting to the Sorrento water system in order to include that property into the Water Service Area.
Annual Water System Fees
Parcel Tax: $178 per year per parcel User Fee: $350 per year per residence
