Shuswap Emergency Program

The Shuswap Emergency Program (SEP) began in 1999 with the amalgamation three local authorities; the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Electoral Areas 'C', 'D', 'E' and 'F', the City of Salmon Arm, and the District Municipality of Sicamous.  SEP provides an integrated emergency planning, mitigation, preparedness, and recovery program for the geographical area which generally encompasses Shuswap Lake, as outlined on the SEP Coverage Area map.

SEP was one of the initial emergency programs  in the Province  to adopt and implement the BC Emergency Response Management
System (
BCERMS ).

The SEP area is approximately 6500 sq. kms  with an estimated permanent population of 35,000, which routinely swells to over 100,000 during the summer tourist and cottage season.

The Shuswap Emergency Program is currently a well established and active program of over 85 volunteers  and 45 local authority staff who are trained in Emergency Management.
